Privacy policy
Short and plain. This page explains what information the site collects, why, where it goes, and how to have it removed.
Who we are. Backflow Tester (“we”) arranges annual backflow preventer testing for properties in Durham Region, Ontario. This site is backflowtester.ca. Contact: [email protected].

What we collect and why

We do not collect payment card details on this site. We do not sell, rent or share your information with anyone for marketing.
Who sees it
- Us, to do the work.
- The tester and, if a repair is needed, the licensed plumbing partner, who need the address, contact and device details to do the job.
- BSI Online and the Regional Municipality of Durham, who receive the test report as required by By-law 24-2018. That report contains the property address, device details and results, and the tester’s details. It does not contain your marketing preferences or anything from this site beyond what the report requires.
- Service providers that run this site: Cloudflare (hosting, form processing, database, spam check, analytics), Resend (transactional email), Google (analytics). Each processes data on our instructions under its own privacy terms.
Where it is stored and for how long
Form submissions are stored in a database hosted by Cloudflare and in our email. Client records (property, device, test history) are kept for as long as you are a client and for at least five years after, which matches how long the by-law requires test reports to be kept on site. Reminder sign-ups are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Analytics data is retained per the providers’ default settings and is not tied to your name.
Email and anti-spam (CASL)
You will get: an automatic confirmation when you submit a form, our reply, and, if you asked for it or are a client, one reminder a year per property. Nothing else. No newsletter, no pre-ticked boxes. Every reminder email carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and replying “unsubscribe” to any email from us works too.
Cookies and analytics
The site uses Google Analytics (via Google Tag Manager) and Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages help. Google Consent Mode is set with advertising storage denied; we do not run ads or retargeting. There is no cookie banner because we do not use cookies for advertising or profiling. If you prefer not to be counted, a browser extension that blocks analytics works on this site.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for a correction, or ask us to delete it. Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. Where the by-law requires a report to be kept, we will tell you what has to stay and why. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes and the substance of the change is noted here. We will not quietly widen what we collect.
